It was a nice day to take a hike. It was a little cloudy with temps in the 70’s. Perfect hiking weather. Joe and Neptune woke up early to do bike maintenance/repair. This was after they had a good breakfast of Spam, eggs and toast.
We took a hike about 15 miles from our campsite at Moreau Lake State Park. There is a dam on the Hudson River that we drove past, but there was nowhere to pull over, even with just a car. The spill gate was open and the water was flowing. It was a beautiful sight.
We stopped at the Moreau Lake State Park – Spring Overlook Trailhead. I must say that this is the best marked trail that I have ever seen. The NY State Parks Trail was well marked in blue. It was so nice to be back in the woods. You can always tell it was a good hike when you find a pile of hiking sticks at the beginning. The pine trees, the smell of the pine trees, the easy walk among the pine trees. It was wonderful. At one point Joe commented on how quiet it was. It was very quiet and peaceful. Except when Neptune and the chipmunks discovered one another. Then Neptune came crashing through the woods and for ¼ mile we could hear the chipmunks telling one another that there was a Neptune coming through. Thank goodness Neptune is pretty well trained to come when called, otherwise, we would have lost him down a hil
Our trailhead ended at Lake Bonita. There was a bench and we sat and enjoyed the view and the quiet peace. There weren’t any other folks there and the lake was very calm. A wonderful hike.
Erin- we ran into a spooky centipede. I thought it was a worm at first and was going to ask you if it was invasive, but we discovered it was a centipede. I just don’t want it near me or mine- (Horror emoji inserted)
We walked past many a boulder that Joe would like to place in our yard. (I’m growing on that idea) Neptune became king of the hill on one of them. Neptune was a powerhouse today! We were clocking the 2 mile mark, his normal stopping point, but at 3 miles he was still in the lead and wandering off leash like a puppy. He is playful and ready to go.
Later this afternoon we walked down the road to Northway Brewing Company. It was so nice to relax and have time to discuss our route home. Which is coming up soon!! Time to think of the future…
We are spending a second night at Lake George Campsite. We really like this place. It’s close to the freeway, but that noise blends in pretty quickly. It is still very wooded with pine trees and the staff are outstanding. Joe and I were discussing the RV exit strategy today and the park staff noticed. They stopped and offered recommendations and help if needed. If you have only a car/truck the road is simple. But when you are pulling an RV/trailer, there is a little more thought needed when entering and exiting a campsite. Something I have humbly acknowledged this summer. And I’ve also learned that I can do more than I thought back in June!
Heading out to our last day in New York tomorrow. Rain forecasted, but we’re still planning on biking/rving tomorrow. Thank you all for keeping track of us!

LOVE the east coast hiking trail photos!! I’ve always loved my West, but have wondered about the East. You’re making it very attractive. Maybe you can show us around next time. Neptune is a rock star. 3 miles?? My man!!! 💚🤩💚
