Light Ride

Today was one of those days that you make work.  Because we lost our scheduled campsite yesterday/Sunday and ended up at Stysh’s Brown Barn Campground, that changed where we went today.  Again, traveling from RV spot to RV spot is a little different than following the official northern tier bike route.  Joe headed out this morning about 8 am for his ride.  He took a photo of the mist around the RV park this morning.  It was a chilly 45 degrees. Garmin also sent him onto another questionable road and that added some time to the ride. We both traveled to Morehouse Volunteer Fire Department on NY-Hwy 8.  There was a truck pullover/ rest stop next door where we joined up to continue on to our next destination.

Neptune was perfectly happy staying in bed today with the covers over him.  He likes to lay in the hot sun as much as possible and today was not that day.  He did rally later on when we reached our new site.

We entered the Adirondack Mountains today.  It was very nice to see mountains again.  And the trailhead signs for hiking!  I am looking forward to getting out there.

We traveled up and down and around and around some mountain roads.  There are a lot of flowers and the colors are beginning to change.  It looks like it’s been dry here too, so maybe they are changing early because of that?  You know it’s been dry when even the golf courses have brown grass.

We are staying at Lake George Campsites which is south of Lake George, NY. We are right down the road from Six Flags Great Escape, an amusement park.  We didn’t see too many people at Six Flags today and I wondered if the kids were back in school, but it looks like they don’t start for another week or so. We have a nice, wooded spot.  There was a large green bug on the tire, I’m not sure what it is.  But it will freak me out if I find it inside.  Neptune has had many encounters with the locals- IE squirrels and chipmunks.  He is getting a lot of enrichment here.  There are quite a few tent campers which is good to see.

We drove into the town of Queensbury and to Rick’s Bike Shop so Joe could pick up some repair items and spare parts.  It was a busy place with everything he needed.  After that we drove into South Glens Falls to Common Roots Brewing Company for a local IPA and dinner.  It was nice to get out and relax at a good brewery again.  It’s been a while.

Headed to bed early tonight.  No official bike rides tomorrow so planning to get out and enjoy the area by foot.
