Joe walked around the campgrounds this morning before heading out. One of his photos has the steam coming off the river. The ride was hilly again and that seems that it will be the norm going forward. He’s been on rural roads before, but there is something different about the upstate NY roads. The roads seem more remote and wooded, similar to northern Minnesota. There were not so many farm stands today.
One road he was on sent him by a Christmas Tree farm. Joe has a picture/example of a route that Garmin wanted him to take: through a gated, private, unpaved road. Joe did not follow Garmin’s directions. The reroute added an extra 2 miles to the ride.
We are staying at Stish’s Brown Barn Campground in Boonville, NY. This was not a planned camping area. However, we received a call a couple days ago from our planned site that they did not have electricity or water and recommended we call this campground in Boonville. It’s a very open field. We’ve discovered that a lot of people pack up and go home on Sundays, so we’re not surprised by the open area. It provided a space for Joe and Neptune to do some yoga stretches. The host, Karen, is very accommodating. Tents are welcome. And they are open year-round, so you can stay here and go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. There is a recreation hall that can be rented for parties and, as the website describes, square dancing. I would love to watch square dancing in the barn.
This afternoon the weather changed. At noon it was sunny, 80’s and we were hot. The air-conditioning was a welcome amenity. But by 3:00 pm it was cloudy, windy and in the 60’s. The windows are open and the breeze is rocking the RV. I pulled out the heater because tomorrow morning it is going to be in the high 40’s! Joe said he hasn’t had to think about what he’s going to wear since Washington. (Which was over 2 months ago!)
Our route is changed a little for the next day or so. One thing we’re learning is to be flexible. Things come up and plans change, and we are learning to just go with it. It is very nice to be a team of three. Neptune must always be represented 😊
