We were back at it this morning. Joe left a bit after 7 am. Just a slight headwind. He sounded good when he called me around 9 am,He was making good time. Hills were moderate with just a bit of climbing. The pictures he took were in Constantia on Lake Oneida. He found a bench and sat down for a lovely second breakfast. We both passed through the town of Fulton, but we found no Larrys there. About 45 miles in he got a flat rear tire. It seems like the only tire that ever gets flat is the rear tire. There is a picture of the piece of rock shaped like a shark’s tooth that was imbedded in the tire, a hard case tire. The picture has the rock with a presta valve cover for reference. He must have hit that rock perfectly for it to enter the tire. What luck..? Joe stopped under a tree at someone’s home and the homeowner came home soon after Joe started his repairs. He asked Joe if he needed any assistance, which Joe declined. As he continued to work on the tire, a neighbor came over to ask if he needed help, which he again declined. The neighbor then brought him over an ice-cold Gatorade. People being the best people!! This is what we are loving about our trip across America.
I had a lovely, slow, relaxed morning. It’s amazing when I think about how far I’ve come on the RV breakdown. It takes me longer to prepare the inside than it does to unhook utilities and pull up stabilizers. Neptune and I had a final walk around the shore of Lake Ontario. The water was calm and you can see the rocks underneath the clear waters. What a great place to visit in the future.
Tonight, we are staying at Treasure Island RV Park in Blossvale, NY. Joe arrived earlier than me and we both arrived earlier than the 3 pm check in. The owners were very accommodating. Mark and Karina offered any assistance needed either tonight or tomorrow, when I am packing up on my own. It seems simple, but that is a very welcome offer. This is a wonderful place to stay. There are a lot of open areas for kids to play and a playground, it is right on the river and there is a beach! And not only that, but they had music on the beach today. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. We could hear the music as we set up and did our regular chores. We are on Fish Creek which feeds into Oneida Lake. There are a lot of “summer campers” here. And we can see why. It is similar to the cabins on the lakes in Minnesota.
Joe spent the afternoon figuring out spare innertubes and spare tires. I spent a while doing a weeks’ worth of laundry. Tonight, we are chilling in our RV under the trees. Tomorrow should be a light day. Every day moving forward to Bar Harbor, Maine and then home.
