Yet another rainy day. Joe is beginning to think it may rain all the way to Maine. We both woke up with rain on our minds. Joe left early for the 60-mile ride in hopes that he could outrun the stormy forecast in the early afternoon.
Joe said he felt like a Duncan Hines cake – moist. The humidity and dew point were so high that he was drenched the whole ride. It was still air and felt tropical. The road was nice, protected on both sides with trees, “a tree canopy”. The ride was beautiful.
Neptune and I were on the road by 10:30 am. The GPS gave us some interesting directions, and we ultimately ended up back on I-80 east and then south on I-55 for a few miles. Once we left the interstate we traveled on some beautiful roads. Taking the back roads across America is a great idea. It really lets us see more than just farm fields and gas stations. We came upon a road delay about 15 miles from our camp site. As we were waiting to get through it began to rain hard and I was getting worried that we wouldn’t’ make it to Joe in time with his shelter. Once we were moving along again, we were able to get ahead of the rain. We met up with Joe at Kankakee Park. He had been there for about ½ hour and had a nice chat with Russ, the camp host. There are tent sites here as well. One of the other park campers was walking with his grey cat. We are going to try to get a picture later. You know how we love a traveling cat.
We have got the process of setting up down pretty well now. We had the bike inside just as it began to rain. It poured for a couple hours. Joe and Neptune took a nap. What a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon. Shout out to my friend Ann who provided me with copies of the People’s crossword puzzles. I put in a movie and started working on those. I am nowhere near the crossword expertise that is my mom using a pen on the NY Times Crosswords. I am happy to even know who the celebrities in the People magazine are anymore.
The park is not busy today. We are right behind the Kankakee, IL Sports Complex so I’d guess that there is frequent baseball, softball etc. games going on. One of the amazing things they have is an outdoor shower! All the amenities of an indoor shower with an open ceiling. And it did not have a sulfur smell! We’re thinking of getting one at home. It’s awesome.
The temperature is cooling off now. We were able open the door and windows! We are looking forward to some sunshine and the opportunity to get out and about without the humidity.
Tomorrow, we will travel to Indiana and to the Eastern time zone. It should be a 60-mile ride to the next site. Because our trip is biking across America with an RV, we can’t follow the official Adventure Cycling Northern Tier Route. Earlier this year Joe mapped out a route that followed the northern tier route as much as he could but needed to veer off sometimes to find RV parks. He spends evenings double checking the routes to make sure he is taking roads he can bike on.
We are learning new things everyday and are enjoying our trip. We realize that we are very fortunate to have this opportunity. Thank you again to all our family and friends for helping us with this journey.

Don’t overthink those People crosswords. A “cow expressing itself” really is “MOO!” You’ can use a pen!! 💚💚💚
I’m glad you like the crossword puzzles. The answers are usually on the next puzzle. 🤣
Love reading your updates and seeing all of the wonderful places you are traveling through.
I had to drive your old vehicle the other day. (I ran over a rail thinking about you) I had a moment. I was thinking, wow, Joe Fisher, the famous bicyclist touched this very steering wheel. Of course I had to move the seat back quite a ways.
