Another hot day for traveling. Joe left for his 73-mile trip behind schedule again due to another rain delay. For the first 15 miles the road was slick and wet. The first 30 miles were good because it was also overcast. After lunch the sun came out and the heat index was 107 degrees. He went through 11 bottles of water!!! It was a hot and mostly flat ride. He enjoyed biking through some great small towns on Hwy 6.
Neptune and I had a quick walk around Atkinson Motor Sports and RV Park before heading on to our next campsite. A train came by, and you can barely see it through the trees. We drove down I-80 and stopped at a rest area for a little walk around to stretch our legs. It was so hot and humid again today that we are trying to do a little bit at a time.
I arrived at Glenwood RV Park about 1:00 pm. We are in the city of Marseilles, IL, which is right on the Illinois River. David, the park manager, was kind enough to show me to our spot and to assist me with backing in. I am learning to just use my mirrors to back in instead of using my mirrors and then turning my head to look behind me. That gets too confusing for the brain. The original spot he had us in was down about a mile of gravel road from the entrance. But he was kind enough to put us in a long-term parking spot for the night because it’s empty tonight and it’s close to the showers. It was only an extra ½ mile for Joe to ride straight up hill on a gravel road.
My brother and sister-in-law, John and Beth, recommended we check out Starved Rock State Park while we’re in Marseilles, IL. We did! And we’re so glad that they recommended it. It was not busy, being a Tuesday and 90+ degrees. I can imagine it gets quite busy on the weekends. Starved Rock comes from a legend about a tribe who are basically cut off from all supplies and starve to death. We walked around for a couple of miles. (We did NOT take Neptune because of the heat and humidity, and I don’t think it bothered him when we left him in the airconditioned RV). The trails had a lot of wood walkways and a lot of stairs. It was beautiful to look at the river and there were so many pelicans! The lock and dam is always fun to watch. There was a lot more to see at the park than the couple places we went to. There are also 2 other state parks nearby, Illini State Park and Mattheisen State Park. There are canyons and waterfalls and camping. A really interesting area to explore if we had more time.
Once we got back to the RV, we got some outdoor RV chores done before heading to the shower and settling in for the night. Which always includes our nightly blog time. The showers- ugh. This is the second day in a row that the water smells like sulfur. So, when you shower, you smell like sulfur. Not enough body spray in the world to get that smell out of my nose. Am hoping tomorrow to wash that smell off me. Honestly, after the heat and sweating all day, any stinky shower is better than what we were probably smelling like.
Tomorrow we are heading farther east in Illinois. It should be cooler tomorrow, which we are all looking forward to.
Thank you for checking in and cheering us on!

Glad you got to see Starved Rock and had the park to yourself even if it was 90 degrees and humid. It’s scenic beauty that a lot of people miss on their trips to Illinois
