Very windy ride for Joe today. The wind was in his face at 15-18 mph with gusts over 25. It was a long slow ride today and he was not happy about the 8 miles an hour pace he was forced to take. He saw a deer with her fawn on the side of the road. He said that the roads were great- flat, smooth. Hwy 114 had more traffic than he’d like with no shoulder, but other than that it was a good ride (besides the wind of course). There are a lot of farm fields and wide open spaces.
Neptune and I traveled mostly down state highways. We did end up on the interstate for a while and I was glad to get off it because of the wind moving the trailer around. Definitely recommend the sway bars. They really help keep the RV and truck stable on these windy days.
Neptune traveled with his head out the window through the small towns when the speed limit was 25 mph or less. I think he found his happy speed when he can get up and look like a real dog.
We are staying at Acorn Oaks Park in Francesville, IN. We’ve made it to another state!! It is a large park with a beach and lots of other activities for families. They have a pub which is open on the weekends. After moving a picnic table out of the way, I was working on backing in to our spot for the evening. It is very muddy here and I’m guessing they have had all the rain that has been around for a week or so. A nice man, Tracy, came over to guide me in backing in. Joe arrived a few minutes after I’d parked, and we got the RV set up pretty quickly. Neptune needed a nap after his hard work of monitoring the RV set up.
For the next couple hours Joe worked on his bike route while I did some much-needed laundry. I had a nice chat with my dad while getting this chore done. He mentioned that there were air quality alerts back home in Minnesota. We haven’t experienced any problems with air quality since North Dakota. But this afternoon we noticed a familiar haze and yes, an air quality alert here, too. We’re not sure if it’s from fires or something else.
We drove into the town of Rensselaer, IN. and went to a brewery, Fenwick’s, for dinner and a beer. We drove around town a bit afterwards to see all the beautiful art on the buildings.
Tomorrow is 70 miles, still windy, but doesn’t look like rain. We are heading into a rest day after tomorrow. And, as always, we are looking forward to setting up and not moving for a day. Hoping to find some good places to walk and explore.
