Rain Delay

Published on 11 July 2025 at 21:00

We woke up to rain, thunder and lightning. Neptune snuggled in safely and would look up but would quickly fall back asleep.  We did not need to evacuate to the caboose.

Everyone went back to bed and started the day a little later.  This provided time to watch the Tour de France LIVE, eat breakfast and have a short nap before heading out.

It reminded us about the meals that the bikers are having.  Dinner is usually a normal evening meal- tacos, spaghetti, chicken, etc.  If we don’t eat out at a fabulous area restaurant, that is.  Breakfast is typically cereal with milk, banana and, of course, coffee. The bikers eat ½ turkey sandwich, cheese stick and KitKat bar (even melted) for lunch/second breakfast.  They’ve eaten their lunches at underpasses, at random farm houses, cemeteries, in parks and in parking lots.  When it’s time, it’s time.  When they arrive at the RV it’s usually a protein shake, V8 and yogurt.

We added some shots from yesterday that didn’t make the blog.  The Library!  Dad- it is only open 2 days a week.  But good news, we passed the bookmobile on a Thursday, so the books are still getting out to the people.  There were also some cool birdhouses made from license plates which I think would be a good retirement project for Joe.

We all passed by New Salem Sue, the cow on the hill, on our way to our next stop. They also passed through Apple Valley, ND. Close to home, but not quite close enough.  We’re looking forward to a week off from traveling next week.

The ride today was cool, the wind was at their backs, and they were chasing the rain all the way to Mandan ND.  They returned to civilization including golf courses and towns.

Tonight, we are staying in Menoken, ND.  It’s right off the highway/freeway.  We didn’t see any bikers today, which was disappointing for us.  We love to meet all the amazing bikers.

The ride today was a long/quick one and there was time for laundry and bike maintenance afterwards.  Neptune was very happy to have all his people. And Bill is definitely one of his people now.

Tomorrow is a BIG day.  They ride 80+ miles and at the end is my sister!!! And Bill’s wife!  It will be a rest day after tomorrow and we are going to relax and enjoy time with family.
