It was a smooth, easy ride. They departed on time and arrived early. One of their fastest rides.
We are back to central time zone. It feels like the Midwest with all the cornfields.
We saw quite a few BNSF trains- Joe says it looks like money. And coal. He took a picture of a microwave site outside of Dickinson that has been in service with the railroad since 1968-72. It is part of the original Collins microwave system.
We all saw lots of wildflowers and hay cutting. Taylor, ND was an old town that they biked through and spent some time enjoying it.
They did not have to ride on I-94 today. Still, they passed The Enchanged Highway. We traveled it a couple years ago and highly recommend the side trip to look at all the cool art. Richardton, ND had an interesting art display with a windmill made of trikes and bikes. And Suzy’s Stash. A store I’m sorry I missed.
Today they met up with a couple of tandem riders, Frank and Brenda from Columbus, Ohio going to Astoria, Oregon via Missoula, Montana (to sign the biking book).
Joe and Bill arrived early and had to wait 45 minutes for Neptune and I to arrive. They had a little tree to sit under and there was a nice breeze. It was 92 degrees and sunny.
We are staying at the Glen Ullin Park District camp site. It’s a nice RV site for the night. They also have tent camping with shade and bike racks to lock up your bike. Mr. Darcy, the camp manager, recommended we head for the caboose if there is bad weather. He said that it would be a lot harder for the caboose to move than the RV. (Visions of Wizard of Oz and a tornado). Hopefully we can stay comfortably in our home tonight, but good to know we have a safety plan in place. Behind our site is a corn field. And now another movie comes to mind…Will definitely be locking the doors tonight.
We’re currently watching a recap of Tour De France from earlier this morning. Hill grades, mileage, speed, etc. means a whole lot more to me tonight.
Short ride today and 2 long rides coming up. Hopefully will be a bit cooler with a favorable wind and minimal precipitation
