CENTURY

Today Joe and Bill rode 100 miles; nailed the century!!  It started out sunny and cool and they were ready to go for it.  The wind was not helpful.  10-12 mph headwind for 80 miles.

Neptune and I passed them about 12 miles before Mosby, MT.  They were with Paula, who is from Madison, WI, and is one of the riders that we’ve heard about as we’ve been traveling across the west.

They crossed the Judith Mountains, and the scenery was changing from wild flowers to more mountain desert. They saw pronghorns, elk, mule deer, including a new fawn.

Neptune and I had to wait about an hour for them to arrive and throughout the time we watched the weather change from sunny and warm to cloudy, cooler, windier and then the lighting and thunder began.  I had the binoculars out watching them come down that winding road to the rest area.

Neptune was very excited to see both of the bikers arrive at the rest area.  He especially wanted to have some of the snacks that Joe and Bill were enjoying.  At one point Joe accidentally threw his iced tea packet away and of course I have a photo of him retrieving it from the garbage can.

We waited out the rain for 45 minutes and spoke with some fellow Minnesotans – Oh yeah, you betcha! As the rain slowed down and after a variety of weather radar apps were evaluated, they decided to go for the remaining 22 miles and meet their goal at Sand Springs, MT.

The rain continued through most of those 22 miles.  It was an uphill finish. And they did it! They made it to Sand Springs (Summit)  I am so proud of them.

Our friend, Chris, is staying at Sand Springs.  It was wonderful to see him and to have him cheer on Joe and Bill at the end.  We have a picture of the 3 bikers with Wanda and Doug who own the store there.  They are especially welcoming to bikers, so if you are traveling through the area, make sure to stop there.  They also have a post office, so it’s a great place to stop for food, gas, stamps and good company.

Tomorrow is another 60 + day and then a rest day in Circle, MT.
