A Slow Day in Lewistown

Please enjoy the sunset pictures that Bill took on July 3rd.  It was an amazing sky that night.  One shot is a panorama – which you can tell by the partial truck showing up in the photo -it’s kind of cool!.

We started the 4th of July doing laundry thinking that most people would be busy, but it was full of friendly folk.  Apparently, the laundry in Lewistown was not open.  We have found nice people all over and one gentleman was kind enough to share his dryer time with us so we only spent $2 on 2 loads of laundry!  It’s been a while since I had to pay for the luxury of laundry and I appreciate my washer and dryer at home every time I carry my laundry duffle bag with my laundry pods and quarters.

One of the highlights of the day was being able to watch the Lewistown, MT parade.  It was fabulous.  We arrived just in time to see the beginning with the military vets leading.  The parade had a long line of firetrucks and then the car show.  We included some of the cars we saw here, but there were many more/ One “float” was a car  which was covered in quilts from the quilting club.  There were lots of horses and ranchers with ages from wee babies on up.   If you’ve ever wondered what happens when one of the little Shriners Cars breaks down, I have the answer!!  One of the little cars had a flat and I was able to see the little wrecker car come and tow it away.  It was so funny.  The parade was similar to ones at home, although it was only 4 blocks long and there were no politicians.  There was candy being thrown to the children. And we have a photo of Joe in front of the kids getting his Skittles.

We went back to Big Spring Brewery for a late lunch.  We were quite impressed with the miner who drove in his dually truck with a 4 horse trailer to pick up his meal.

Some of the people we met there recommended going to the Big Spring Fish Hatchery.  We’d been to the hatchery in Bozeman, MT and found this to be just as interesting and entertaining.  Seriously – if you ever get the chance to go to one, try it out.   The spring is the 3rd largest spring in the world.  It flows approximately 50 – 64 thousand gallons per minute. There are some pictures of the springs and trout.  It was very peaceful there. The Lewistown  Big Spring Rod and Gun Club is also represented there.

We settled in for the night and watched the deer go by.  Joe and Bill played cribbage in the game room. The firecrackers increased.  Neptune climbed on top of us.  Bill and Joe were able to sleep through the fireworks, but Neptune and I watched from the safety of the RV window.  It was an excellent fireworks show.

There was a good reason for Joe and Bill to head to bed early on July 4th
