Uphill Climbing- Hiking Style (And We Made a New Friend)

Today started out with some relaxing time around the RV and some bike maintenance.  It was very nice to go at our own pace.  We headed out for our hike to Leigh Lake Trail 132 around 11 am.  As we turned off Hwy 2 we were immediately taken in by the view.  And I was able to pop my head out of the moon roof to get a good shot of the road and mountains ahead. The wildflowers are blooming, and I loved seeing the red Indian Paintbrush/Castilleja.  They always remind me of Montana.  It took a while to get to the trail head with all the washboard roads, one lane bridges and potholes.  At the end the GPS in the car gave up and just showed us a compass.  But, like many things, the end of the road is the end of the road.  And at the end was our trail head.  The sign was very clear that the gain is over 1100 feet and compared it to climbing over 1500 stairs to the top of the Empire State Building.  It was a lot of climbing and not much of a rest for Joe’s legs.  However, it was also breathtakingly beautiful.  We have photos of the trail and the snow and the melting and a waterfall.  The trail was intense, and I always love it when they give you an arrow to show you that, yes, you are in the right place and you are headed in the right direction.  There were many times I wished my sister was with me.  Twinkie, you would have loved it! We got back to the car in about 2 hours and appreciated the rock picnic area.  I took a picture of the pine trees all lined up as we left.  Because it was a rest day, that also meant grocery shopping.  We went to Rosauers Grocery in Libby, MT and there we met a fellow biker who also started in Anacortes, WA and is headed to Bar Harbor, ME!!!!  Kari the Badass from Bishop, Michigan.  She is biking on her own/ self-supported and we hope to meet up with her more often during our travels.  We wound down the evening with chicken and potatoes cooked in the convection oven!!  I don’t know when that will ever NOT be an exciting accomplishment for me.  Joe headed to bed early for another 60+ mile ride the next day.  You can see his bike in our multipurpose area resting for the next day.
