Construction and a Nice Road

Another great sleep with the windows open and a nice breeze.  Neptune has fully embraced sleeping on the RV bed with us and when he gets cold, he just collapses on the closest person.  Oftentimes we wake up with a paw in the face.  He’s sound asleep and can’t be moved, so we just place that paw somewhere less dangerous for our persons.  Joe left for his ride to Rexford, MT a bit after 7:00 am.  It was a good ride today with the temperature and wind both comfortable and some nice new pavement at the end.  “It was an enjoyable day”, he says.  Neptune and I packed up uneventfully.  Except for the bugs that appeared in the blocks and bags outside.  I’m hoping I got them all out because I do not want them coming with me.  I don’t know what they were, but they didn’t fill me with joy.  Joe started out on the Old Haul Road for 16 miles, but then we both travelled on the same route, MT-37.  There was very little traffic which was nice for the biker and the RV driver.  There were 3 or 4 bridges that were one lane and with width restrictions.  Those were nail biters for me.  But hopefully it is another chance/experience that will bring me closer to RV driving confidence.  By the end of August, I’ll be driving like our nephew, Christian, who is my RV driving idol!  😊 We passed Joe about 12 miles from our final destination, and we pulled over to meet him at 8 miles remaining.  It’s one of my favorite things to stop and check in on him and for Neptune and I to give him the boost to the finish line.  There is a picture of Joe in his biking gear next to the RV and Neptune planning to sleep in his usual spot under the RV.  We are staying at Rexford Bench Campground in the Kootenai National Forest.  It is a really nice camping area with many pine trees and not very busy on a Wednesday night.  The campsite is on Lake Koocanusa, which is a man-made reservoir created by the construction of the Libby Dam.  Joe has a couple good pictures of the dam.  The dam was completed in 1972 and is used for flood control and hydroelectric power.  Cool name, Koocanusa,  comes from a contest and is from “Koo” Kootenay River, “Can” Canada and “USA”.  The lake goes across the border from Montana to British Columbia.  At the campground there is a phone booth (50 cents/call) and a hanging phone book!  The phone book is legit, although it looks like there have been some attempts to light it on fire.  Once we were set up Joe and Neptune took their afternoon cat nap.  They woke up when our friend, Kari, the badass from Bishop, MI came up to our campsite!  She was traveling through.  She and Joe confirmed contact info and we’re hoping to catch up to her throughout the trip to Maine.  Kari- let us know if you need anything!  We took our couple mile walk to and around Rexford Bench Beach.  We enjoyed a sun shower during our walk. There was a sign on a bridge for no jumping or diving off a bridge.  The next photo will show you that there is no water under that bridge, just grass and deer.  Mom, I followed the sign this time!  We are enjoying a cool evening in the campsite with the smell of wood burning in the air and the wind blowing through the pine trees.  Tomorrow is a 70 mile ride  for Joe.  Neptune and I hope to have a nice hike in the woods before meeting him.  Thank you all for the messages.  We love to read them and to know that you are enjoying our pictures and words.
