After an early morning Neptune found comfort in the dirt/gravel outside the RV. He enthusiastically hopped into the truck and even stuck his head out the window like a real dog!! Then he remembered who he is and spent the majority of the day on the floor behind the passenger seat.
For the humans it was a beautiful drive. Badlands, rolling hills, no wind.
Once we got to Glendive, MT we started following the route that Joe and Bill (brother in law) will be riding together. As we drove along, Joe changed it from Glendive to “the road I’m going to die.” Yikes! But I must say, there is a lack of shoulder and some uneven pavement for them to travel on. And the ribbon road went on for ever and ever and ever…
In one picture, Joe had commented “boy, there’s a lot of bears. Good thing I brought pepper spray”.
We saw some other cyclists on our drive which reassured us that the route was a good one. However, we did clock quite a few tens of miles of unshouldered, bumpy roads. And a lot of construction where a mountain bike may be more appropriate. In quite a few areas it was marked as “Construction Ahead – Unpaved, Loose Gravel, Bump” A trifecta of fun for any biker.
The country we drove through is gorgeous and at each stop we met good people. We have driven I-90 to Billings and Bozeman many times. It was nice to go a different route in Montana and see different sites. The mountains and hills and wildflowers were amazing. LOTS of pronghorns. Some whistle pigs (prairie dogs). No bison yet.
We’ve made it to the Airforce base in Great Falls, MT. A very nice park. Good area to walk with the dog. Joe and I are enjoying the trip while checking out the return trip via bike and RV through this area in a couple weeks.
Thank you for keeping track of us. We won’t always have the ability to update, but our master plan is to do it every evening after enjoying a beer and our nightly game of NY Times Connections and Cross Word Mini (sorry mom, we are no where near your level of the full NY Times Cross Word – you’re a rock star)
Hey!! BNSF!! Keep the trains rolling!! I'm on a fixed income!
Still in Montana tomorrow. Thank you for all your support!
Joe, Susie and Neptune

Bad roads are just natures way of telling you to pack spare tubes and tires. Love the updates!
