We had a fine sleep at our KOA in Westfield, NY. Joe woke up early and set out for the day’s ride before 7 am. He had a 54-mile day. Joe was able to stop at one of the many beaches along Lake Erie for his 2nd breakfast. He also took a picture from the road with Buffalo, NY in the background. He had an uneventful ride among beautiful wine country. Route 5 is a gorgeous road. Joe and I both took it and it is much better than taking the interstate. BTW- The people here are very supportive of their Buffalo Bills football team. We’ve seen many dressed up buffalos in shops and people’s yards.
Neptune and I did our usual wrap up in Westfiled. I wrapped up and he monitored the goings on from his rest spot in the dirt. We’re a team, Neptune and I.
Today was one of those weird days for the biking/RV adventure. The rest stop was for Hamburg, NY. The only place we could find for an RV stay over was Walmart and possibly a fairground. Unfortunately, the Walmart there does not accept overnight travelers. We decided to stay an extra night at our Tuesday stop and so we are spending Monday and Tuesday night at the same spot. It’s another KOA here in Medina, NY. It is enormous and if you don’t bring your own golfcart to get around, you can rent one.
We spent the afternoon relaxing. Well, I did. Joe has been diligently reviewing his bike routes for the rest of the trip. Again, making sure that there are no gravel roads and that the bike route and RV route meet up at the end of the day.
Neptune has been enjoying his time in the new spot, sleeping in the 90 degrees sun. Joe and I were laughing today that early June we had to provide treats at the top of the RV stairs to get him to come inside and now he’ll push us aside when he’s ready to come into his air-conditioned home. He will also no longer eat carrots without hummus. We’ve created a monster. One thing people have asked about is the wrap on his front leg. Over 3 years ago Neptune had a cut on his leg, which he licked. He has not been able to stop licking that leg since. We have tried all sorts of things to get him to stop including medication. Long story short, the end is that he wears the wrap to protect that leg. He doesn’t mind the wrap, especially because it always comes with lots of treats. And he gets lots of attention- especially from kids who want to know about it. Neptune is a very gentle baby to kids, dogs and cats. The only thing that would be a concern is if you were a squirrel or a whistle pig.

Today’s tribute to Neptune was wonderful - and well deserved! He’s the third amigo, beloved third wheel, third banana (?)! We love that sleeping, bandage-wrapped, looks-like-he’d-tear-your-face-off-but-actually-a-marshmallow fellow.
AND - I’m realizing that - Folks - you’re in the home stretch now! It’s happening- savor it all!!
