THE Ohio State- Day 2

Published on 5 August 2025 at 21:00

Joe took a wonderful picture of the morning sunrise today.  That would have been the main picture, but Emperor Neptune was an obvious cover shot. We are a Star Wars loving family.

Joe got on the trail at his usual time, around 7am.  He talked with the campers across from us when he got up at 5 am and found that one of them had biked across the US in 2006.  This biking across the US has been going on for a long time. Joe described his ride today as uneventful, flat, minimal wind effect and row upon row of corn fields. He enjoys his ride through the towns with their history, many established in the 1800’s.  His legs ran out of steam today, which was unusual for a relatively short ride (57 miles). He is thinking he’ll need more calories going forward because of low energy.  Eating more often during the ride will help.

Joe’s ride today was quick; he beat me by 30 minutes.  I had a hard time leaving MJT State Park.  It has such a peaceful vibe, and I could have spent hours by the river just listening to the birds and water.

We are staying with Keith and Kim at KZ RVing in Clyde, OH.  They have RV and tent sites available on their property. They have an outhouse with a flushing toilet, electric and Wi-Fi.  KZ RVing is registered with Adventure Cycling.  A great place to stay on a trip across America as it’s a quiet spot with easy access to the bike route.  And Neptune enjoyed his rest in the shade and later a rest on the hot pavement.  You can take the dog out of Mississippi, but …

Joe and I took Neptune for a mile walk at The Woods at Luscombe Farm, a county park. We didn’t see much more than mushrooms and squirrels.  I am glad I had bug spray on, so I fared a bit better. Joe did not and was loved by the bugs. And Joe walked in front of me the whole time so experienced ALL the spider webs.  I had to flick a couple spiders off his back.  It was a quiet wooded walk which Neptune loved, and we enjoyed stretching our legs with no uphill climbs.

After dropping off Neptune we headed to Sandusky, OH. There is a Merry Go Round museum!  Unfortunately, it is closed on Tuesdays. That is something we are learning to look for, a lot of places are closed at the beginning of the week.

We checked out a local brewery, Clag Brewing Company, and had a drink and some vegetable spring rolls – which were excellent.  It’s in the mid 80’s again and after our snack Joe got himself an ice-cream at Scoops.  We walked down to Lake Erie- another Great Lake!  To my friend Karen- yes! We have seen Lake Erie 😊 And we have many Lake Erie days ahead.  Sandusky, OH looks like a great historical and tourist town for a longer visit in the future. And the Irish are represented. There are a lot of great towns in Ohio.

Thank you to my Family Health nursing friends for the Speedway gift card!  We used it (+some) today.  RVing really chews up the gas.

Tomorrow is a shorter ride for Joe, so he is hoping to sleep in until 6 am.  We are going to get as much exploration done as possible as we have never been to these areas of the US before and are really enjoying the people and places.
