We slept well at Loves RV in Ohio. We didn’t really hear any trucks or other traffic until the morning. I’d recommend it as an overnight stop, and it has some snacks conveniently located across the parking lot!
Joe found that there were more hills to climb today than he’s had in the last 4 states. Most of the ride along Lake Erie was beautiful with small towns and gorgeous houses. The wind was no help, but he completed 63 miles in 5 hours! (2 hours less than yesterday’s ride) He put in 184 miles this week. He’s ready for the rest day ahead.
Joe took a picture of a historical site- The Northeast Boundary Marker. We had to look up the meaning/significance of it. In 1786 Connecticut ceded its western land claims to the United States but reserved a 120-mile strip along Lake Erie. This strip became the Western Reserve, and the marker signifies its eastern edge of the Western Reserve, a 3.3 million acre area in northeastern Ohio.
Neptune and I had an uneventful trip into Pennsylvania. We stopped at a rest stop right after crossing the Ohio/Pennsylvania border. We did our usual walk/stretching of legs and Neptune took a great photo next to the Welcome to Pennsylvania sign.
We’re staying the next couple of nights at Presque Isle Passage RV Park in Fairview, PA. It is really set up for families with a pool, store, park, etc.
Joe and I were hooked up and settled by 1:00 pm. We did our usual laundry and then headed out towards Lake Erie. Joe had passed by a lot of farmers markets on his bike today, and we were anxious to get some fresh fruit and vegetables. We picked up some grapes and plums and peppers, and Joe got some goat milk fudge for dessert. There are many fruit/veggie stands along the roads here. And grapes, wineries and orchards, which we did not know about Pennsylvania until now.
We stopped for dinner at Twisted Elk Brewery in Lake City, PA and sat outside to enjoy some good food and a local beer.
We’re planning an early day of hiking at the Presque Isle State Park on the Presque Peninsula outside Erie, PA. On Sunday we enter New York. We’re getting there!
