Resting in Wabash

Published on 2 August 2025 at 21:00

It was a slow, relaxing morning for us after a good sleep with the sound of the water treatment plant humming all night and the occasional long train whistle as it went through town.  Joe slept in until 7 am and then he and Neptune had a walk and then made pancakes and Spam on the outdoor grill.  Sometime after all that, I got up!  My favorite thing is to wake up and not have to get up, so I appreciated all the business that did not include me.

Joe worked on bike maintenance this morning while I got some RV planning and cleaning done.  We left to explore a couple places in Wabash, IN in the late morning.  The first place we stopped was Charley Creek Falls.  It is a small park with a manmade waterfall.  There was a family there from Fort Wayne, IN and we all marveled at the lack of people enjoying the cool river and waterfall.  The kids showed us the water snake peaking out of a rock.  After the falls we went to Charley Creek Gardens.  The Charley Creek activities are all within a few blocks of each other.  The garden was beautiful with lots of neat side areas to explore and enjoy.  Joe and Neptune successfully completed the maze.  There was a labyrinth that Joe followed for quite some time.  Another future back yard accessory??

After our walks we got the usual shopping done in anticipation of the next week. Joe spent a couple hours on his bike route.  The folks we’d met earlier from Fort Wayne said that there were some nice bike paths for Joe to use tomorrow.  Neptune and I just sat in the sun together as I read a book and he went from sun to shade to sun to shade over and over.

After Joe finished his planning, we went for a walk next to the Wabash River again. It’s very nice to have a good walking path just behind the RV park.  Joe got to try his hand at axe throwing.  Good that they were not made from steel.  They really do have a lot of random activities for people to enjoy as they walk the river walk.  We saw the clowder of cats again.  A women drove up with a big bag of dry cat food and those cats appeared from all over, at least 10 of them.  They obviously know her car.

Tomorrow, we head north in Indiana.  We’ll be heading north and east from now on until we reach the end.  We are still in awe that we are doing it!  There are a lot of long rides ahead, but Joe has completed more than he has left.

We miss being with family in Wisconsin this weekend and are thinking of you all and appreciate the pictures and updates.  Next year we’ll be there!

Rest day is over, and our mindset is moving into getting ready for traveling tomorrow.   We are hoping for winds in the right direction and well behaved pets.
